Underground utility locating cost: what determines it

We do not publish a rate sheet, and this page explains why: two properties of the same size do not require the same work. What follows describes the factors that actually affect a price, service by service, in the words of our service pages.

  • PDF report within 24 hours
  • Submit your Info-Excavation request for public utilities, and entrust us with the private utilities on your property.

Why there is no posted price

A price announced out of context never holds. Depending on the service, the amount depends on the area to cover, the number of utilities to locate, site accessibility, the level of detail required or the number of points to check. Announcing a figure without knowing these elements would mean correcting it later, which helps no one.

The quote is free and with no obligation. So it is the quote, not a rate sheet, that gives a fair price.

The orders of magnitude we publish

We do not give an amount, but we do indicate durations, because they can be verified in the field.

  • Most residential jobs and small sites come to a few hours of work.
  • A residential property is generally covered in a few hours.
  • A single conduit on a residential property often takes less than half a day.
  • A few core drilling points are scanned in less than half a day.
  • Ground penetrating radar locating is billed according to the area to cover and the level of detail required, from a targeted run of a few hours to a full grid over one day.

Frequently asked questions

Is the quote free? Yes. The quote is free and with no obligation.

Why don't you publish your rates? Because the price depends on the area to cover, the number of utilities to locate and site accessibility. An amount posted without these elements would be corrected at the first request.

What do I need to provide to get an accurate price? The city and the type of work are enough to start. The address, the area involved and any existing plans help us refine the method and the duration.

Does Info-Excavation charge a fee? Info-Excavation locates public utilities free of charge up to your property line. Everything on the private side (service connections, site conduits, cables between buildings, tanks, old foundations) is not covered. That is exactly what we locate.
