Drains, a special case

Perforated plastic agricultural drains do not respond to radio detection. Ground-penetrating radar can locate them, but their small diameter and wet clay soil make the reading more difficult. We then combine the scan with surface clues, such as drain outlets in ditches, and the report states the reliability of each route.

Can you follow a line over a long distance? Yes, especially if it is metallic or has a tracer wire. For a plastic line, we scan successive transects along the probable route.

Does the survey help locate an old well? A well or a pit generally produces a characteristic reflection on ground-penetrating radar. The report locates the target and its estimated depth.
